A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Have been coming to this site for more than 15 years, good to see that facilities and infrastructure gradually improving. However on this occasion were informed by that the new facilities block (toilets/showers/laundry etc) would be closed for 'essential maintenance' for 3 days (we were not informed of this when booking in). Turned out that this was for the block to be repainted as part of the refurb' snagging. To do this when site is near to full, is surprising to say the least and resulted in long queues for showers (30 mins plus for ladies) and toilets in the old, 'tired' block. Surely this should have been programmed for a time when the site is quieter? On a different note, the rabbit population has exploded in recent months and is now out of hand, they are everywhere, there are rabbit scrapes all over the site, in both grass areas and hardstandings. These are a potential hazard at night, especially on a site that is poorly illuminated.

This was our first visit to a camping and caravan club site so we asked for a pitch out of the way with few people to pass us by. We were shown to our pitch which was at the entrance to the camping field filled with mostly tents. Soon after we had pitched it became clear that every man and his dog came walking passed (on gravel road) and using the field as a toilet. As we were out most of the day we decided to stay we're we where, the last straw was when a camper van pitched opposite us with a dog from hell. Every time a dog walked passed (which was often) it went ballistic including trying to bite its owners! The new toilet block is very good and the location of the campsite is superb.

We were told we couldn`t put our caravan in certain areas because we wanted hook up & an awning. Walking round the site later there were at least 3 caravans with both in the areas closest to the lake on both sides of the access road. It does seem to depend on which staff member shows you the pitches. We used the shower block on the left and felt a good clean with bleach wouldn`t go amiss. They were clean but the grout in the tiles & round the shower tray was black & black mould marks on the ceiling. It was a bit off putting. We love Keswick & these points will not put us off returning.

Really, members should be barred for letting dogs roam and not cleaning up after their dogs.
