If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Love this site, my favourite, never had a problem before with pitches.

Love this site, my favourite, never had a problem before with pitches. elderly parents arrived late due to breakdown and overturned lorry so got last pitch other end of site. Many pitches nearby were made free the next day and for several days after but the staff refused them permission to move. Offered them a grass pitch uneven with tree roots and under tree as only option. Excuse couldnt change it pitch on booking system once booked in! Hence when bbqing etc had to keep dragging chairs and folks etc long way. Totally unoccomodating and uneccesary. 9 nights not together at all. Contacting by mobile to arrange outings. They would have been better going home and coming next day at least they would have got a pitch nearer us. I know its a very busy site but it was early when we asked. The day was just starting. No arrivals. They were right at the exit barrier and their nervous dog was spooked by it all hol. Staff otherwise very friendly but it did spoil our holiday big time. Brilliant site for all levels of walking, very dog friendly pubs/shops nearby. Just beware if your together and one arrives late. Ok to be apart if you're all young and mobile. Facilities have been upgraded and are excellent.

The booking in system works well.

The booking in system works well. Arrival time is from 1pm but everyone seems to start the queue from noon! Very organised, one warden sends you in to book in and pay at the office then the other bikes you around the site offering you a choice of pitches. We had Wayne helping us and he was the best warden EVER. Saw him most days and always had a smile and time for a quick hello. We saw him and his wife later in the week and were sad to learn that they had been moved on by the club. We're hoping to come across them somewhere else soon! 2 facilities blocks, both very clean. Good size pitches and lots of new hard standings since we last stayed. Stunning views of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells. Short walk into the town of Keswick. Booths supermarket, expensive but handy, closest to the site. Plenty of really good pubs and cafes in town, most doggie friendly. Hope Park and Keswick Launch are both worth a visit. Buy your launch tickets from the campsite reception and it'll save you 1 per person (cash only though!). We used the hop on/hop off service and it was great value at just under 10. Can also highly recommend The George Hotel in Keswick town for Sunday roasts!

This is a brilliant site for walking the lakes as car can be left on site to walk many of the hills and fells. The site is clean and site staff friendly. The only thing that lets it down now is the silly rule of not arriving before 1pm, this meens a long line of caravans and motorhomes down the lane, up to 45min to get in. This then means to me that my first day is over by the time i am set up. i would prefer to be off site by 11am. i know this is a personal thing but there you go. chris
