If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

We booked to stay at the Keswick Club Site from Saturday the 12th August till the 19th of August. We love camping and had been looking forward to our time away together. When we were shown our pitch, it seemed a little boggy, but we thought that was due to the rain that had fallen in the morning and that it was slow draining. We had noticed the warning that the site could flood, but we thought this would be due to the lake and river rising together, but they seemed to be fine and we were not warned that our pitch would be muddy. Sunday was a beautiful day, wall to wall sunshine. Monday was drizzly, as was Tuesday, Wednesday was a rainy day and by Thursday all of the ground under our tent was absolutely saturated and very very muddy. Gradually the mud was migrating into the tent and the smell was quite repulsive. On Thursday we had had enough of the mud and on Friday we left early, very disappointed with our pitch, on the Island (as it is know locally). We know the Club has no control of the weather, but it seems that tents are seen as the poor relation to all those caravaners. It was 500 paces to the toilet block from our tent, and we had to walk past all those caravans with toilets in to get to the toilet block. The caravan pitches were on higher ground and it felt as if the tents were a bit of a nuisance. By the time we left on Friday, a day earlier than we had paid for the inside of our tent was like walking on a water bed, but it was mud under the tent, and it was at least eight inches deep. On arriving home we had the unenviable task of washing everything and cleaning the tent of all the MUD.

We have just spent two great weeks at the Keswick site.

We have just spent two great weeks at the Keswick site. The site was well organised and facilities immaculate, the staff obviously work extremely hard at this because its busy site and its a credit to them! Site is on the side of the lake which is beautiful and the views of the surrounding fells are stunning. The town is only a short walk and there is everything you could need available, without having to use a car... great. All dog friendly including pubs and most of the shops. This is a great base for walking and there is a bus stop near by if you want to trek further afield. This is the lake district so be prepared for a bit of rain! We would like to thank Platti+ for my Kayak lesson, and the Dog and Gun, the lake inn and the "Old Keswickian" chip shop for great grub. Fitz Park for a great place for our Black Lab,Gibson, to play. Booths supermarket for quality supplies, and finally the fells for our energising break.

A pretty site with excellent facilites. Site wardens were particularly good and welcoming. We liked being able to walk into Keswick. However, the lack of an on-site designated dog walk was a disappointment particularly as the site particulars state it's a good site for dogs. The closest place where we could safely let our dogs off the lead was an 8-10 min walk away.

brilliant site, we come here a lot and are never disappointed, it's always clean, well kept but this time we've been blessed with the the best crew of hardworking wardens, despite the weather they've never stopped, they are all extremely pleasant and so helpfull, the bench mark has been set very high by all the wardens and their assistants this time, love it so much here booked loads for next year already.
