A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

This is our favourite campsite.

This review is for Keswick

This is our favourite campsite. It's on the shore of Derwent Water which is convenient for launching the canoe and it's a short walk from the centre of Keswick with all of it's outdoor shops and pubs / restaurants. Great walks on your doorstep without using a car. Really perfect location. We come back every year and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The shower blocks are always clean and in full working order. The pitches are spacious. You can choose where you pitch when you arrive from the unoccupied pitches that are available, which is not the same on all sites, and is much appreciated. It isn't cheap but it is very good value. Highly recommend it. Book early though - it's popular.

It's clear to see significant investment in modernised shower blocks which is a major positive and the staff do a good job in cleaning and staying on top of any mess, sadly not all people staying here leave the facilities in a clean condition but that's not the sites fault. 10 minutes walk from the centre of keswick with supermarket and lots of dining options and hiking type shops. Some good cycling routes close by like the old railway route to threlkeld which is roughly 4 mile each way and not too strenuous, couple of nice pubs for lunch when you get there. The site wardens were generally friendly and helpful although there are some particular rules such as no football on the grassed area, I can understand this as it would be a field of mud in no time. On our last day whilst saying goodbye and having a chat with a fellow camper we had to move out of the way of a car & caravan turning the corner, this involved having to stand on some gravel on the edge of where one of the wardens pitch was - not by intention I might add. A small stocky female warden passing snapped - "that's someones drive you are stood on" I thought it was very abrupt and uncalled for and we had just got out of the way of a vehicle and it did leave a bit of a bad taste on what was a pleasant stay overall and we enjoyed our holiday with good weather at Easter being a bonus.

The site has now had both of its toilet blocks comprehensively refurbished to a high standard.

This review is for Keswick

The site has now had both of its toilet blocks comprehensively refurbished to a high standard. The views from the site are breathtaking in rain hail shine (and strong winds) which we endured during our stay! However, there were always smiles and time for a chat with Simon and Susan (Management Team) and their colleagues. Access from the main A66 is easy for most levels of competency in towing. You can walk into Keswick (5mins). Access to local Fells is within walking distance from the site, so is the Keswick Launch (Discount Tickets from the site office). This site will appeal to all levels of mobility and age groups, you can relax by the caravan/tent and take in the stunning views across to Cat Bells, Causey Pike, Skiddaw etc. Those with maritime desires can launch their sailing crafts from the shore which edges the site. And those with a skip in their step can venture from the site, not having to turn a wheel, and climb the Fells and Mountains which surround the Keswick site. Booths supermarket is a 5 min walk from the site, with a bus terminus adjacent covering the Cumbria area. For families with young children there is a safe play area in the centre of the site. I can't speak too highly of the Keswick Site, the Management Team of Susan and Simon Hill are the icing on the cake in ensuring your stay is safe, comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly commend this site to Members of the CCC. Its a 'jewel in the crown'.
