If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Cleanimng happening at 10pm in the loos. Warm water throughout.

Cleanimng happening at 10pm in the loos. Warm water throughout. Brilliant washing up set up with drying racks provided. A nice touch. My Paraglider landing by the lake was tolerated with good humour! Great to be able to launch a kayak or go for a lake swim right from the site and a 36 km cycle over Newlands Valley, via Buttermere and up Honister pass was a before breakfast activity. Only problem was potential for waterlogging being so close to water table and lake after rain. Some pitches would have been impossible. Ours was fine. Lots of friendly dogs and responsible owners made our Collie at home.

Booked on last minute for one night as we only live 17 miles away. The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly. Geoff showed us to our pitch he couldn't of been more helpful. The cleanliness of the shower blocks and toilets were outstanding. The location of the site was fantastic, So close to the town centre but so quite. I have also been coming here for years and the site has improved tremendously.

I have also been coming here for years and the site has improved tremendously. New hard standings, new showers/ toilets.Could do with CDP at the bottom of the site. Keswick itself is a must.A theatre. Restaurants. Supermarkets. No driving required if you don't want to. On site the staff used to patrol in the evenings, stopping any undue noise.Never saw such staff. When asked a member of staff,he said we patrol if we have time!He was very abrupt in his manner, and not friendly. Very wet when we were there, hence same problem with some pitch's,wet and muddy. Do not arrive at 1 pm,or before, the queue is long, and checking in too slow. We will go back again

Large campsite with 2 shower/toilet blocks, so plenty of space for everyone.

Large campsite with 2 shower/toilet blocks, so plenty of space for everyone. Lovely level pitches grass and hardstanding. Excellent walking area either direct from site or a short car/bus ride away. Excellent shopping facilities in Keswick a 5-10 minute walk away. A great selection of pubs and restaurants. Booths grocers just down the road by the bus terminus. Plenty do do in Keswick for the whole family especially if its raining. Access to rowing boats and lake steamer 10-15 minute walk. Boat launching available directly from the campsite. Wardens extremely helpful and cheerful. This a very popular campsite, early booking is essential.
