A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Really lovely site, right on the lake, fabulous views of Derwent Water, great base to explore, lots of really good walks, taking bikes is a must! The Keswick disused railway is around a 6 mile round trip ( head for the local leisure centre, it is at the back of it, not very well signposted) The town of Keswick itself is literally about a 2 minute stroll from the site, lots of shops, the Oddfellows pub is a must, great beer and really nice homemade food very reasonably priced. Keswick Launch is a really good way to explore Derwent Water, get a hop on,hop off ticket, get off at Hawes End and walk up Catbells!! you can stop at any of the 7 different stops on the lake or choose to walk all round it. The site was very busy when we stayed so we chose to stay near the exit, lovely pitch (10) if we had to be really critical the only thing that let's the site down is that one of the shower blocks is very dated, but always clean and plenty of hot water. We will definitely return to this site.

This is a beautiful site, third time stayed.

This is a beautiful site, third time stayed. Some wardens can't do enough, others are miserable, is there any need? Hardstanding pitches could have a bit money spent on them, enough revenue goes into this site from club members, some of the pitches had grass coming through and were waterlogged whereas when we visited neighbouring club their pitches were raised and immaculate. One poor family arrived being told they couldn't put an awning up because pitch was too muddy, which I thought was a disgrace, all some of them needed was some more gravel put on. Also the car/caravan/awning rule is a joke. As this stood when it suited whichever warden brought you to your pitch. We were asked to move ours last year to one side and then to find out this year when we done that we had to move it to the other. In effect your car is standing outside someones elses awning, why can't you have your own car on your own pitch like most other campsites I go to then there is no misunderstandings. We went out for the day and a new caravanner arrived and put their car infront of their awning, they said the warden seen them do that and never said anything. We explained we couldn't put ours infront of van as we had no room and the next caravanner had their car infront of our awning so we asked if they could kindly move it. Not only is this uncomfortable, it doesn't help matters when the caravan opposite had had his car parked outside his awning for the last five days, which was pointed out to us!!!! there was no uniformity, plenty of other caravanners had their car on the own side of their grass, whilst others were asked to move theirs to the other side following the car/caravan/awning rule????? The club are happy to take money off people coming in tents and caravans and if that is the case then the pitches should be fit enough for purpose and all pitches clearly marked.

Upgraded toilets and showers in the top block, which are amazing!!!!!! Much more pleasant to use that the old facilities. I look forward to the bottom block being up graded next year. Site is in a fantastic location, its so convenient for the town, shops, public transport and local walks. We found out this summer that your free bus pass ( if you are over 60+) can be used on local busses - this is a bonus. Staff are very friendly and helpful, as always and are keep to ensure you have a pleasant safe holiday. Would definitely recommend this site
