    Top site for walking

Keswick is a two-minute walk from this site with water-based activities on Derwentwater.

Our lovely little Derwentwater Club campsite is nestled between Skiddaw and Derwentwater in the north of the Lake District and is enticingly close to the pretty market town of Keswick. In fact, pull on your walking boots and you’ll be in the centre in just minutes. It’s easy to see why Keswick is the major centre for tourism in the region with its many varied shops, restaurants and museums, not to mention the lure of water and the hills.

Our Derwentwater campsite has recently been full refurbished to the high standards you would expect from a Club site, whilst maintaining its peaceful ambience. The National Trust’s Crow Park and Hope Park are close to the campsite. The latter offers crazy golf and a putting course. Enjoy low level walking around Derwentwater’s shores or if you want more of a challenge Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Striding Edge and Blencathra are close by.p>

Head to the Keswick launch and hop on board a cruise boat for a 50 minute tour of the lake or jump off at one of the seven lakeshore jetties.

Back in Keswick the Cumberland Pencil Museum, the Keswick Brewing Company and the Theatre by the Lake are all worth visiting.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Beware when approaching the site - in the last 100yds or so there are right hand turns to the Keswick site, a static home park, the exit road for the Derwentwater site and finally the site entrance. It can all be rather confusing if you are not expecting there to be so many different caravan type sites so close to one another. The site is well ordered and everything is in its place. The showers etc. were not that old and everything was found to be clean and in working order during our stay. There was however a cracked toilet seat which should have been identified during cleaning and promptly replaced. Unlike the Keswick club site this particular one is not on the lake side, it is hemmed in on all sides. The site is extremely small and we felt a bit claustrophobic. Despite toilet/shower room closure times for cleaning being prominently displayed we came across cleaners mopping out at other times of the day when the toilets were in use. I'm not that keen having a mop flicked under the door whilst using the facilities! Rubbish disposal of all kinds is not possible after 9pm as the gates to the disposal point are locked. A sign on the gate informs you that the noise created when people were disposing of glass bottles is responsible. It would be nice to be able to dispose of general waste at any time rather than having to store it overnight. Would we go back...no. There is not enough space for us, the site is hemmed in on all sides, it's a rather 'clinical' experience.

Loved this site , we've always stayed next door on the Keswick site but liked this so much more. The site , grounds , toilet block ect are immaculate. The wardens couldn't have been more friendlier and special thanks to Paul who was a great help when because of the rain throughout the night our wind out awning totally collapsed and had to be taken off the MH , thanks again Paul. I did have a walk around the Keswick site and thought it looked a bit of a mess , probably because of the rain, don't know but our favourite site now in the Lake District is Derwentwater xx
