    Top site for walking

Keswick is a two-minute walk from this site with water-based activities on Derwentwater.

Our lovely little Derwentwater Club campsite is nestled between Skiddaw and Derwentwater in the north of the Lake District and is enticingly close to the pretty market town of Keswick. In fact, pull on your walking boots and you’ll be in the centre in just minutes. It’s easy to see why Keswick is the major centre for tourism in the region with its many varied shops, restaurants and museums, not to mention the lure of water and the hills.

Our Derwentwater campsite has recently been full refurbished to the high standards you would expect from a Club site, whilst maintaining its peaceful ambience. The National Trust’s Crow Park and Hope Park are close to the campsite. The latter offers crazy golf and a putting course. Enjoy low level walking around Derwentwater’s shores or if you want more of a challenge Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Striding Edge and Blencathra are close by.p>

Head to the Keswick launch and hop on board a cruise boat for a 50 minute tour of the lake or jump off at one of the seven lakeshore jetties.

Back in Keswick the Cumberland Pencil Museum, the Keswick Brewing Company and the Theatre by the Lake are all worth visiting.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

We arrived and were warmly welcomed by two people.

This review is for Derwentwater

We arrived and were warmly welcomed by two people. We were told that there were three available pitches and offered a choice. I dont think it would have mattered as all the pitches looked really good. My wife was stiff after the journey (she had a knee replacement surgery recently) and she was offered a key to the disabled toilet which was a thoughtful of the warden. The pitch we chose was gravel like all the others and I was pleased that the caravan we perfectly level across and that makes it so much easier. The toilet and shower block is raised up (I assume it is to prevent damage from flooding). It has decking walkways that let the rain drain away quickly and a choice or ramp or steps to get to the block. The site was nearly full and the toilet block was perfectly clean at all times of day. The staff must have checked and cleaned regularly. When we arrived we were told that the bin area is locked overnight but one bin would be available for general waste. As putting bottles into a bin makes a lot of noise this seemed a sensible idea. The friendliness of the staff, the immaculate toilets and the great condition of the whole site means that we will be back again next year.

This is the first time on this site having had frequent visits to Keswick site.

This review is for Derwentwater

This is the first time on this site having had frequent visits to Keswick site. The site is in a nice position and all the site is very newly formed. We were amazed to hear the bins were locked from 11pm until 9 am- because of noise! What is noisy about big bins with rubber/plastic tops. No other bins available apart from a metal bbq bin which I suppose could be rattled at any time of day or night. There were no dog waste bins either. My biggest grumble was the toilet block - whoever in the health and safety dept. decided that wooden steps and decking was sensible needs bringing to task. Yes there were signs saying the surface may be slippy, but this does not stop anyone slipping. Perhaps the club has good public liability insurance, but that doesn't help a broken bone and driving home. In the park the wooden walk ways are covered with wire to make them safe to walk on, has anyone thought of this? On a plus note the toilets were immaculate. All in all we enjoyed our few days and the weather was good.

I totally agree with the last two reviews.

I totally agree with the last two reviews. The site is fantastic and made even better with the current managers there not forgetting Paul and Janet who were there as well helping everybody out.The managers at Keswick site could take note of how to run a site properly treating customers as people and not an unwanted guests. You have everything here and a lovely town on your doorstep. We will come back here and avoid the main site with the unwelcome attitude of the management there.

This was our third visit this year.

This review is for Derwentwater

This was our third visit this year. I am writing to praise Janet and Paul Webster who have been managing the site in the absence of the holiday site managers. What a wonderful example they set to other managers. Friendly, approachable, hardworking and diligent no matter what time of day or night. The facilities were kept immaculate with regular visits by them to keep them clean despite the best efforts of some of our fellow campers to leave them in a poor state. I have never seen grass cut so regularly despite some very wet weather when there would be every excuse to leave it. They are both lovely people and we will miss them both when they move on at the end of their contract . Our very best wishes to both of them. Hope we have the privilege of meeting them again in the future.
