Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. The site itself was clean and well maintained, grass short, no weeds. The site is very big so could do with each camping area numberd with direction signs to pitches and reception. Several times I was asked how to get to shop and I had no idea. The toilets though clean, there weren't many there so 50+ tents/caravans and 4 toilets. On one occaision the toilet didn't have any tissues.. The other toilets had ill fitting seats that slid around. This was the ladies I can't comment on the men's. The showers where clean but wow the water pressure was painful. I went after 8pm so only I was there so this could have been why, but due to the amount of showers I wanted to avoid "rush hour". I would return as staff friendly and the general appearance of the site was nice, and there's is a nice walk behind the site on a public foot path that is accessible from the site.
