    Site within National Park

Pitch up here at this lovely hillside campsite at the gateway to the southern Lake District.

Our Kendal Club campsite is ideally located for those who enjoy walking and cycling. The hills and peaks of the southern Lake District are on the doorstep while the Yorkshire Dales National Park is around a 30 minute drive away.

This beautiful campsite feels secluded yet is within walking distance of Kendal itself where you’ll find a selection of shops, a supermarket, two castles, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery as well as the award-winning Quaker Tapestry Exhibition.

The campsite enjoys lovely fell views, offers spacious pitches and has good range of facilities including a laundry, children’s play area as well as toilets and showers.

Windermere is around nine miles from Kendal campsite. Here you can board a steamer, launch a boat, windsurf or canoe. Back on land the World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness on Windermere offers the chance to meet Peter Rabbit and his friends. On the western shores the National Trust owned woodlands, Claife Heights, is great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting.

Amblseside at the northern tip of the lake is the starting point for the challenging Wansfell, the Langdales and other mountain. You can also walk to Stock Ghyll Force from the centre of the town. Pretty Grasmere is worth a visit. Treat yourself to some of Sarah Nelson’s famous gingerbread. You’ll find the Grasmere Gingerbread shop tucked away in the corner of the churchyard.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks are required.

Had a marvelous hardstanding with a lovely view across the fields with the local sheep and shepherd, who was always ready for a chat.Kendal and the supermarket was a short walk across the fields. We were able to explore the Lake District and return to a lovely site. The facilities are a bit lacking but spotlessly clean. A lovely end to our 40 day trip up the east coast of the UK and down the West. Thank you Camping and Caravanning wardens and Assistant Wardens you should all get medals for the work you do and the people you put up with

Quiet site. Could do with more showers - only 2 each in ladies and gents.

Quiet site. Could do with more showers - only 2 each in ladies and gents. Shower block closed from 10.30 - 12.00, not convenient if you wanted a bit of a lie in or needed to go for last minute pee before moving on. Kendal is a very nice little town with plenty of places to eat and great charity shops. Locals really friendly and happy to stop and chat. Would visit this site again.

I booked this site by mistake thinking I had booked for the Windermere site a few miles on the other side of Kendal ( I didn,t realise the club had two sites within a few miles of the town). When we arrived having looked at the other site on a previous trip to the lakes we were not sure if we would stay. That thought lasted but a short time as we were shown to one of the best pitches on the site with views over the fells and fields. The facilities were as usual spotlessly clean if a little on the tight side as far as the showers go. It is about a ten minute walk to the nearest two supermarkets and another fifteen into Kendal with all it has to offer (a lot). Handy site for the southern lakes and Lancaster so plenty to do. There is some good walking from the site. We will be back as soon as time allows as this is a gem of a site.

The only real annoyance out of all the places around the Lakes, was the council for Ambleside charging disabled drivers to park. The costing was not cheap, and if you wanted to take advantage and go on a boat trip around Windermere,it would have cost a small fortune for trip plus parking.
