Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

Bowness is a lovely tourist town , good for all ages , making Braithwaite Fold a good site ! BUT , it's so cramped , too many pitches , not enough showers etc Not good for signals and wi fi is not free either This campsite is no good at all for children , no room to play between cars/ caravans etc It's expensive but if it's the town of Bowness you want to visit it is the only option for camping now the lovely Fallbarrow park is closed to tourers Quite frankly the localtion to the town is its only + point Saying that the staff are really nice and welcoming

If coming from the north..... Avoid using the A592 from near J40 of M6. The road is narrow and steep in places - not suitable for wide vehicles. Use the A66 to Keswick and A591 from Keswick to Windermere. We used the campsite 10% off voucher for all of our lake cruises :-)

National Trust properties in the area are well worth visiting and country views are magnificent. Beatrix Potter properties (now National Trust) are yet to be visited by us but that will soon be changed. My wife cannot visit this area without a visit to Hayes garden centre at Ambleside for a meal and "shop window rant".

the pitches are advertised as service pitches but in my apinion a service pitch consists of a water tap and a place to tip waste water. this I not the case at braithwaite fold. also the pitches are hard standing and very good but they are not wide enough to get caravan and awning on. part of the awning has to go on the grass witch again is not a service pitch.having said all of this the site is very well run
