Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

Really friendly and helpful wardens. Good facilities and reasonable space between units.

Really friendly and helpful wardens. Good facilities and reasonable space between units. Not too big so felt more friendly. Fantastic hot weather so perfect for a 3 night stay in Lakes! Didn't want to drive motorhome to get around but no need. Buses to take you around the area. Used ferry as a foot passenger and walked to Ambleside along lakeside catching the steamer back. Brilliant for dogs and people who enjoy a lengthy walk rather than a fell type hike. Walked to Wray Castle (coffee stop), Hawkshead and over to Hill Top another day. Elterwater and Langdale Valley as well as other places accessible using buses and ferries. Definitely will return!

Friendly helpful wardens, and a very clean site with good facilities.

Friendly helpful wardens, and a very clean site with good facilities. Bowness within a short level walk with plenty of things to do. Good walks and cycle tracks around the lake. Book erly as the site is always busy, avoid arriving around 1pm as that seems to be the favoured arrival time and causes traffic to back up at reception

Our second year of club membership so not been to many club sites yet.

Our second year of club membership so not been to many club sites yet.On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by Sue. Prior to that we made a telephone enquiry and left a message and had a really quick and helpful return call from Sheena, putting our minds at rest regarding our query. All the wardens were really friendly and helpful at all times, allowing people to enjoy their stay without being bothered with petty rules and keeping the site clean and tidy. The site is ideally situated for walking and close to good bus routes for those that want to get around without using a car all the time. We were well rested while we were there as the site was really quiet. Hope to go back soon.
