Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

We were given a transfer to Braithwaite Fold instead of Keswick due to imminent flooding.

We were given a transfer to Braithwaite Fold instead of Keswick due to imminent flooding. The site was cramped, lacking in views, pitches were very small with no room to manoever without driving over the grass which was quite sparce anyway. There was no where to walk our dogs without leaving the site and the information room was not very well equipped with some of the leaflets quite damp. Found a few good walks nearby but site warden did not have any knowledge on ferry times and prices to cross the lake. We had to find these out for ourselves. Quite an enjoyable 3 days but we would not come again.

This site is well located for exploring the entire Lake District. The access is easy. Most of the pitches although long are narrow, so you end up parking your car at the front of the pitch, with not much room to walk past it. I got a very warm welcome on arrival, a warden lead me to my pitch after giving me a full explanation of the facilities etc. The toilet block although very clean is in need of an update. As a keen fell walker I always think a drying room on sites in this type of location would be a useful addition. There are no recycling facilities as all the waste goes in the same bin, which I found hard to get used to.

Unlike another club site in the Lakes (beginning with 'K' and ending with 'K') where we have also stayed twice this year Braithwaite Fold is streets ahead in customer service and all-round customer satisfaction. Although the pitches are compact, they are level and well laid out. Maybe you don't have the views of other sites in the Lakes, but you couldn't wish for a better place to enjoy this wonderful area. We love it.
