Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

Nothing was too much trouble during our stay and as our family group changed on a daily basis we certainly put them to the test. Access to the lake can be made on foot through the gate at the back of the park which was useful to us to access our boat. Casual stroll brought you to Bowness and all the facilities there. Only criticism- would have appreciated a light at entrance to park when walking back at night, it was very dark. Didn't spoil our stay, we'll take a torch next time! Thank you again.

2nd visit to the well situated site, just minutes from the busy Bowness town.I actually arrived 30 minutes early due to following site instructions in handbook which avoided all traffic jams going through Windermere. We do not normally go away in August but because of a planned walking holiday used this site again. The site was full, and suprisingly quiet.Nearly all pitches are hard standing except a couple of grass pitches near entrance. The downside of this site is there is not anything for children on site, and cars do park at the edge of pitches rather than alongside. We walked daily, using buses to take us to Ambleside for walks around there.Claife Heights,Far Sawrey, using the passenger ferry and Orrest Head. Not forgetting the nearby Windermere Steamers and real ale pubs of Bowness.

The pitch was very small no room to stake our dog as they used any small amount of grass to put over night camper vans or small tents on. We arrived at 1pm as promted, i went to pay lady in reception/shop quiet rude.. pulled a face as i was paying cash. As we went with my brother -in-law (who has the same intials) the lady found this quiet confussing as we were trying to explain she seemed to be come quiet irritable. To then tell the rest of our party when they arrived they had no booking! Yet they had just told us who we werr waiting to arrive. Not dog friendly... if you have a dog that barks do not bother going to this site. I appriciate that no one likes to hear digs barking constantly but to be told to shut the dog up coz it barked 3 times of the warden (female lady from reception) and to be called on your phone to stop your dog barking. If you want a site where you can relax sit out side the van and enjoy yourselves and have children also i would not recommend this site at all for families. If you are a middle aged/older couple then you will love it here. Overall the site ia extreamly clean and tidy.. just dont get on the wrong side of the wardens. For us personally a lot of money spent for a very unrelaxed holiday!
