Pitch on the shores of Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Our Braithwaite Fold Club campsite sits on the eastern shore of Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

We're sorry but this site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. Second vehicles will need to park in the pay and display next to the site.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

Once you get away from the hubbub of Bowness-on-Windermere this part of the country is sheer heaven. Would recommend to anyone who has the nerve, to drive the Wrynose and Hardknott passes, takes about hour & half, but it is everything you'd get on a white knuckle ride at Alton Towers! A trip over Kirkstone pass to Ullswater is another wow - we were in the clouds (literally!). The warden recommended The Albert pub for meals - good choice, good food, good prices. The only moan is the lack of signs pointing the way to site - instructions in site book are okay but there is usually a sign at the last turning - we missed the turn but luckily found a turn-around down the road.

Our first time here, normally go to Keswick when in the lakes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities new and well kept. Downsides to the site are the pitches are too close together (caravan club sites far more room and to me the site would be better with a couple less outfits in each row). All cars parked in front of caravans and does give a very crowded feel on the middle row. Bowness gets very busy during the day in peak season, but quietens down at night. Also could do with lighting on the walk into the site as it is pitch black. Nice short cut to lake at the bottom of site and can cut down distance to Bowness centre by going to right of the pitch and putt. Some good pubs to choose from with nice real ale. Although this review reads a little bit 'moany' we both enjoyed our stop and with a couple of tweaks it would become one of our favourites.

We arrived midday and the wardens were very helpful, friendly and even helped get our caravan onto the pitch. The site isn't big and pitches close together with cars parked in front of the units, but it didn't cause any problems and gave the site a friendly atmosphere. It is close to Bowness and can be walked very easily. It's also next to the Ferry to take you across Windermere. Have a day off from driving and take the mountain goat bus, well worth it. Going back to the site itself, the Wardens were always about and even making sure the shower block was clean and stocked up late in the evening. Very clean shower block, nice hot showers and generally immaculate everywhere. We would definitely return here and would highly recommend this first class site to anyone looking for somewhere central to stay.
