Ideal site for exploring Teesdale & the Yorkshire Dales and outdoor pusuits.

If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, a rural location with plenty of walking and cycling opportunities our Barnard Castle Club campsite is for you.

Located on the north eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, handy for the attractions of Teesdale and within walking distance of Barnard Castle or Barney as it is known locally, the tree-lined campsite is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

This pretty tree-lined campsite has 90 pitches. The camping field is level and has a well placed modern facilities block offering showers/toilets, a laundry, disabled facilities, a parent and child room and a dish washing area.

There are plenty of walks direct from the site and an excellent dog walk for those who don’t want to venture too far. Children are catered for with a play area and the visiting fish and chip van comes highly recommended.

There’s fishing at Balderhead and Hury reservoirs to the west of the site.

For days out visit the Bowes Museum, Bolton Castle, the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, the Dales Countryside Museum and England’s highest unbroken waterfall, High Force.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

My wife and I have recently returned from a short break at the Camping and Caravan Club Site at Barnard Castle, the site was up to the usual high standard we have come to expect, the staff were both helpful and informative. Barnard Castle is a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding area, and the town itself is full of a diverse number of independent shops and pubs well worth a visit especially on Wednesday, market day, but get back for around seven oclock if you want to catch the visiting mobile fish and chip shop. (Also on Fridays) We spent a day exploring nearby villages, Low and High Force waterfalls are both well worth a visit, and was finished off with a walk on part of the Pennine Way, as keen bird spotters, to see and hear Curlews and Lapwings in number sadly no longer present in our local Derbyshire moorland was a joy. The camp site is also an good base for visiting Swale Dale, and excellent cream teas can be had at a quite well known farm, a couple of miles west of Keld.

The site is very well maintained, amenities block was clean, warm and had plenty of showers, sinks and toilets so no queing and waiting. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the little shop seemed well stocked for bits and bobs you may need to top up with. The site is around a half hour walk to Barnard castle centre, through a wooded area and farms, it was easy to navigate with the detailed directions sheet staff from the site gave us, the site is within a few mins drive to local tourist sites such as Bowes museum and Raby castle etc. We only stayed 2 nights but would certainly recommend it to others and we will definitely return.
