Ideal site for exploring Teesdale & the Yorkshire Dales and outdoor pusuits.

If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, a rural location with plenty of walking and cycling opportunities our Barnard Castle Club campsite is for you.

Located on the north eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, handy for the attractions of Teesdale and within walking distance of Barnard Castle or Barney as it is known locally, the tree-lined campsite is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

This pretty tree-lined campsite has 90 pitches. The camping field is level and has a well placed modern facilities block offering showers/toilets, a laundry, disabled facilities, a parent and child room and a dish washing area.

There are plenty of walks direct from the site and an excellent dog walk for those who don’t want to venture too far. Children are catered for with a play area and the visiting fish and chip van comes highly recommended.

There’s fishing at Balderhead and Hury reservoirs to the west of the site.

For days out visit the Bowes Museum, Bolton Castle, the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, the Dales Countryside Museum and England’s highest unbroken waterfall, High Force.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Must see places: Raby Castle - Castle Bolton - Low and High Force (Waterfalls) - Wensleydale Creameries (Hawes) - Shildon Railway Museum - Auckland Palace (Bishop's Residence) - Good eating in Rees, Swaledale. Many attractive North Yorkshire villages for those with a camera. On the whole as varied and as enjoyable as the Lakes without the rain.

We are from the North East and know this area well. However, we had not stayed for more than a day for many a year so decided to have a week locally at a sight that was close to a town and also provided lots of opportunity for dog walks. We had called into this site once before and were impressed so decided on Barnard Castle. The site is kept very smart and offers lots of space unlike some other regimented sites. Facilities are clean and well maintained. A dog shower would make a great addition. Your own T&C's for making a review include the statement below:- ' In general, please treat other people with respect and remember that something you intend as a joke or feel is harmless can be easily misconstrued.' This is something the Geordie Site Manager should remember as his sarcastic humour was not always appropriate in my opinion. Overall , a friendly character but did dampen my enthusiasm of what had otherwise been a great week.

We came with family who also had a caravan. But also some hired the Ready Tent. Which was really nice. Staff managed to place us altogether so we had a lot of fun being there. This was my second visit the rest of my families first and all have said they would stay again. Can't fault the available facilities, or the Staff Lovely Little site, quiet, peaceful country site.

I had never heard of Barnard Castle before my visit.

I had never heard of Barnard Castle before my visit. Lovely interesting market town a couple miles from the site (nice walk to it if you are energetic). Site level with good facilities.. though the bins are all one end so it was a walk to get rid of any rubbish. Superb walks in the area - I headed 20 mins up the road to Bowlees visitor centre and was given an 8 miles walk to the waterfalls and up into the hills which was great. I then returned to enjoy something in the cafe. If you haven't been to Teasdale before... this is an excellent place to stay.
