A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

It was great to return to this site with my owners.

It was great to return to this site with my owners. We were only here at Easter & I remembered all my favourite walks & the river that runs alongside the site. I'm not sure if my owners packed our campervan in a bit of a rush, as having packed their new awning they forgot the hammer - not a problem as Barry (site manager) kindly lent them one of his. My owners chose a grass pitch this time & Barry even walked with them to check which one they'd like. As there is a dog walk on site my owners ensured we weren't far from that. We did enjoy several local walks, stopping off at the Royal Oak or the Towy Bridge Inn - very welcoming to dogs. The weather was not as sunny as it had been at Easter, but not a problem as the stunning scenery & location can be enjoyed no matter what the weather. Looking forward to returning later in the year - hopefully for the Rhandirmwyn Show on August Bank holiday, as my owners like going to this & this year they hope to enter me in the dog show. Special thanks to the site managers & Shadow who always said hello as we were walking by.

We have just returned from this campsite where we stayed for the weekend and also was our first booking with the Camping and Caravan Club. From beginning to end it has been a fantastic break. The site itself is immaculate with very friendly managers and the toilet block and showers were spotless. If you are looking for a complete, get away from it all kind of break, then this is definitely the site for you. No mobile phone signal, very limited tv signal = a very perfect and peaceful weekend. The wildlife and walking in the area is just amazing, there is so much to do and see, we just didn't have time to do it all. More importantly there are two pubs nearby that both cook lovely food. Nothing was too much trouble. We arranged to leave the site late today so that I could nip off and take photographs at the nearby rspb site. On our return, the awning had blown up over our van, (much to our horror) but they were there ready to assist, even though they had to close the shop. I cannot recommend this site enough and we will return the first chance we get.

Set in a beautiful valley by the river, this level, excellently maintained site is perfect for a peaceful break. Welcoming wardens, two lovely pubs, and no mobile phone signal, what more could anyone want? Great walking and cycling without needing to drive. If it's shops you want, then go somewhere else! We did visit Brecon, a nice little town, and the gold mines, an interesting tour underground. We will return as despite being some distance from civilisation, there is plenty more to do in the area.

Having sold my caravan in 2014 I still felt the need to visit Rhandirmwyn, so bought a tent and took my two dogs for a couple of nights. It was their first time camping and I had not tent camped for about 35 years. We had great time one day walking across the tops, and the second day taking the tracks up to Llyn Brianne, so we slept very well indeed. I was offered a free choice of a pitch, and Barry, the site manager offered to bring me a rubbish bin as my pitch was some way from the nearest amenity point. A really nice gesture. The local pub, The Royal Oak serves good beers and food, but even when the site is quiet you may still need to reserve a table if you want to eat in the bar area. The village has some nice walks around the locality and the footpaths are well signed, but the village could do more to improve that maintenance of the stiles which in too many places are in a poor state of repair and which would cause problems for the less able. Lastly the site has a well stocked shop, which had I known the range of foods would have saved me some space in the car. Most farms in the area have eggs for sale via an honesty box too. Overall a very enjoyable break in Rhandirmyn an area I have been visiting since the mid-80's.

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
