A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

What a fabulous holiday. We stayed for a week and wish it was longer. There was wildlife everyday, friendly people, excellent facilities, walks from the campsite for every ability, enough food from the shop to keep you going. Perfect! Really hope we can get back there very soon. Highly recommended. Thanks very much to the wardens for doing such a great job.

I have already reviewed the site, which is excellent, however I forgot to mention the wildlife.

I have already reviewed the site, which is excellent, however I forgot to mention the wildlife...I am a keen birdwatcher, and was truly astonished to see above our pitch every day Red Kites and Buzzards,I read a review about this and it was important for me to see the Red Kite population is truly on the up, I spotted younger birds as well as older ones, just took my breath away, one morning we got up and a Buzzard was perched on a wooden steak right next to our tent, beautiful...there was Buzzards flying above every day, truly awe inspiring, this area has no light pollution at all I am a keen amateur astronomer also and have not seen dark skies like I saw since living in California and observing from the Mohave desert, the milky way was so prominent easy to see with the naked eye...we sat up late most nights after tucking the babies into there lovely warm sleeping bags, and just looked up to a sky bursting with billions of stars, it really is an excellent site for observing....take it from me well worth a visit...thanks again Wendy and Barry York see you again Nick and Val Ben and Ruby

We are a family of four, the children being 12 and 9.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

We are a family of four, the children being 12 and 9. We have a campervan and are working our way through Wales from our home in south west England in August 2014. We had considered other sites in the area but were delighted to read so many favourable reviews and chose to stay here. The site managers could not have been more helpful from our phone booking, welcoming and helping us select the perfect pitch and with their continuing information and advice throughout our stay. They also phoned ahead for us to the next site which provided us with real reassurance. The site is spotlessly clean, quiet and peaceful. It is genuinely secluded, being 7 miles on from Llandovery. The RSPB site at Dinas is nearby, but you are likely to see buzzards every day on site, kites locally. Do drive up to Llyn Brianne, the views are truly stunning, but a cautionary note, you may meet one of the many huge logging trucks on the narrow roads. The Royal Oak is a small, pleasant pub a short walk up a steep hill away! A great site, we will be back.

We arrived Sunday pm,was given a choice of pitch electric hook up.We noticed how immaculate the site was and how beautiful the views to the surrounding hills were. The facilities are 5star,immaculate clean, and regularly cleaned at 11am each day.We as a family visited castles, the National caves centre,Brecon Beacons National Park,Brecon town, amongst many stunning drives with breathtaking views to the surrounding countryside, all in all a brilliant first camping holiday for a young family, myself and my partner loved the tranquility, our small kids Ben 4 and Ruby 20 months loved all the site had to offer as well as the castles, the caves which has a dinosaur park, shire horse centre they fed animals patted them, they loved the river Towy that runs alongside the campsite, all very safe...I would like to add a special note for the managers Barry and Wendy Yorke they made us feel special, they were so lovely, and nothing was a bother for them,so much so they need to beknighted for all there hard work and friendliness so much so we will be back next summer and the one after so hopfulhopefully we see Barry and Wendystill there as we struck up a very dear frefriendship...on the whole a fabulous first camping experience we will treasure for years to come....thank you Barry and Wendy Yorke for making our stay so pleasurable...Nick Val Ben and Ruby ODonnell
