A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

There should be a warning on this site.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

There should be a warning on this site.'Do not come here if you are addicted to electronic gadgets!' We overheard people at the pub complaining bitterly because they could not get a strong signal on their mobile phone. Thankfully, the mobile reception is poor, which was not an issue for us nor was the lack of television reception. Two pubs within walking distance. One is up a steepish hill but this is mid-Wales! Both pubs were dog -friendly. Food at The Towy Bridge recommended. We did not try the food at the village pub due to time constraints. A very peaceful break.

We have been visiting the campsite for the last four or five years, but have seen it flourish in the past few years under the conscientious and meticulous care of the wardens, Barry and Wendy. This year they have been joined by Assistant Wardens, Alan and Sue, who clearly share their commitment to ensuring that this is one of the most well-kept, efficient (but far from officious), friendly and welcoming sites we have visited in the UK and Europe. We have previously only visited for weekends or for the odd night, but, loving the site and the area as we do, this year we decided to spend a week there in early August. Although the weather the previous week had been atrocious, when we arrived, the site was far from weather-beaten, somehow the team had worked their magic to ensure that the pitches were still perfectly maintained and comfortable. During the week we came to understand just how this site always appears so well cared for, the team simply do not stop. No sooner than one job has been completed they seem to identify another, yet they were always cheerful, helpful and friendly when we interrupted them to ask a question or to seek advice about something. The site is perfect for anyone, from families with young children to those at the other end of the age spectrum happy to enjoy the peace and the views. And for anyone keen on walking, the area is idyllic. It is off the beaten track, but that only adds to its appeal as far as we are concerned. The ambience on the site ensured that we had a wonderful, relaxing week and I have no doubt whatsoever that the creation of such an ambience is entirely due to the way in which the site is managed. Thank you very much Barry, Wendy, Alan and Sue, I hope we will see you all there again next year.

Stayed this time for nearly two weeks.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

Stayed this time for nearly two weeks. Not long enough! Even though the weather has been 'interesting', Barry, Wendy and the team have kept the site in fantastic condition - quite a challenge! Rhandirmwyn is a lovely place, surrounded by gorgeousness. Turn right for Llyn Brianne, the famous reservoir, amazing forests and Abergwesyn. Turn left for Cwm Rhaeadr, the waterfall walk and technical mountain bike trails. Within easy reach of Llandeilo and Lampeter, both lovely towns and not too far from the famous costal town of Aberaeron and the first class dolphin watching beaches of New Quay. If you don't want to drive you don't have to. Provisions are available locally from the site shop and from a small shop attached to the Royal Oak which is in easy walking distance. You can be sure of a warm welcome at the Towy Bridge too (slightly further but a lovely walk). The food served is very acceptable at both hostelries, so you don't even have to cook! When you visit Rhandirmwyn, Barry and Wendy will give you the warmest of welcomes. Enjoy!

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
