A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

Set in a valley with the river running by the site.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

Set in a valley with the river running by the site. Hard standings near the reception and camping field further on. You feel almost like you are in another world, secluded from outside. No mobile phone or TV reception on site (except Satellite) but the latter did not worry us as we had a very good Wi-Fi signal. Although the toilet blocks are of an older design, they were kept spotlessly clean. Lots to do in the area. Would recommend a walk at the Llyn Brianne Dam. Dolocouthi Gold Mine and the Red Kite feeding station. Two good local pubs, serving meals. Access to site from the village involves turning down a steep hill, however they recommend you leave by a different route, which although narrower, is not quite as steep, and here is less risk of grounding.

In all the years we have been visiting this site we have suffered rain.we were pleasantly. Surprised with the beautiful weather. the new site manager's were very helpful. They just need to organise the site better. keep children on one part of the site. What started out to be an excellent holiday. After the first 2 days. I was glad to leave. children being allowed to play and run around. Other people's caravans tents etc is not. Acceptable.

It is one of the best sites that we have ever visited after many years of camping in our camper van. Everything was perfect - the welcome, local information on nearby walks given to us, the great care with which the site was looked after and run. There was so much wildlife around - birds, wildflowers. It was a really peaceful spot.

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
