A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

We were greeted by the friendly staff who made us feel very welcome right from the start.

We were greeted by the friendly staff who made us feel very welcome right from the start. We were shown to our pitch which was beside the river and had plenty of room. The site facilities are of a very high standard and very clean and tidy. Staff are always available and seen about the site throughout the day. There are some great walks about the area and views are tremendous from hills above the site. We had our two children aged 5 and 6 years and there were plenty of things for them to do and see within easy travelling distance. There are two pubs within 3 miles of the site and both serve very good food and ale. Would highly recommend this site if you want a relaxing break mixed in with some cycling, walking or water adventure. Thanks for a fantastic stay and see you again soon.

Wendy and Barry were very welcoming, Barry showed us to our pitch and even lent us a dog tether because we left ours at home, which was a great help. The site was very quite and very well maintained. It was a bit quiet for us but it was still a very good site. The facilities were very modern and maintained to a high standard. They allow plenty of room between pitches so you don't feel that you are camping on top of one another. We couldn't do much about the weather, but enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Had a great couple of days at this site and from the off was made most welcome by the wardens especially Mike who booked us in, escorted us to our pitch, pointed out all the amenities and gave us an update of the local weather, which he did every evening. Everyone we spoke to on the site enjoyed it very much in fact one couple told us that they had been coming to this site for 19 years. The showers are a bit dated but where spotless and well maintained. We will most assuredly re-visit this site in the near future, great for fishing, walking and just enjoying the peace and quiet. Well done

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
