Overview

Explore the university city of Cambridge and its surrounding Fenland landscape from here.

South Cambridgeshire is ideal walking and cycling country – a tranquil and rural landscape interdispersed with gentle rolling hills, beech woods and flat fertile land.

The Club’s pretty Cambridge campsite at Great Shelford, offers an ideal base to explore the area. This level campsite, bordered by trees is just four miles south of the cosmopolitan city of Cambridge.

In addition to its famous university the city offers a range of attractions including museums, art venues, restaurants and bars. Discover the city on foot – there are many walking tours on offer – or take your bike and enjoy the many cycle routes around the city. Further afield the Fens are a pleasant place to spend an afternoon in the saddle with its flat terrain and quaint towns and villages.

During the summer months Cambridge hosts a mezzé of al fresco performances of music in the parks and green spaces as part of the annual Summer in the City programme of events. July sees the city come alive as the Folk Festival takes over and in September the city’s Art Picturehouse hosts the Cambridge Film Festival. No visit to city should be without a punt on the river Cam.

North of the campsite historic Ely has a magnificent cathedral or take a boat trip on the River Great Ouse. The bustling riverside towns of St Ives and St Neots are closeby as is the home of British horse racing – Newmarket.

The National Trust’s Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey, the Imperial War Museum and Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum are popular days out from Cambridge campsite.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

This is an excellent site in every way.

This review is for Cambridge

This is an excellent site in every way. It is clean, tidy and spacious and well maintained by friendly staff. It is well placed to visit both Cambridge centre and the surrounding countryside. Good eating places in Gt Shelford (The Square & Compasses - 10% discount for site users) and Trumpington (Hudsons Ale House). The bus into Cambridge goes a rather roundabout way and the Park and Ride maybe better. If you have a bike the cycle route into Cambridge is really good. I would thoroughly recommend this site and would certainly go back.

When coming onto the site along Cabbage Moor (a private road) beware the many severe humps designed to slow down your caravan. In addition take extreme care when entering the road as you are somewhat blinded by foliage and cannot see what is coming up the road. As soon as you can see you are unable tpo reverse. (I had this and was confronted by a local yokel in her Disco who was refusing to give way to me. I eventually managed to get on their (pristine) verge to let her through only to have the rocks they had put there ruin my caravan mover at a cost to me of over 700!! Not a happy bunny!)

Great site with some incredibly friendly and helpful staff BUT the SHOWER FACILITIES are AWFUL unless you like walking in somebody else's water. All they need to avoid that particular problem is to install some ground level dividers between the cubicles. The showers themselves provide warm water but are sited in the wrong places in the cubicle so keep your shoes well clear. The doors of the sink rooms toilets and showers are the same so you have to guess which is which. So please dont modernise other sites to this poor standard!
