Mar Azul

Overview

This excellent new site opened its gates in autumn 2014, and with its welcoming team and high quality facilities, is a hit with anyone who simply wants to relax in a quiet area by the sea.

It’s less than a mile to sleepy Balerma, a quiet seaside town with a smattering of local shops, and a pleasant promenade including the occasional bar or two popular with campers. You may have heard of the intensive greenhouse agriculture in this area of Spain (the source of much of the salad that populates supermarket shelves in the winter time), and it should be noted that Balerma is right in the middle of it. Don’t be surprised by the walls of (predominantly low level) plastic structures on your way to, or in the immediate vicinity around, the campsite, but equally don’t let it put you off if you are looking for a place that is wide open to the sky, right on the coast, and with everything you need to simply relax on your pitch. Although not a typically tourist-oriented area, there are plenty of fascinating day trips to be had if you go out in your own vehicle, and the site may also organise excursions subject to demand. Almerimar and Almería are not far away, and further afield are the much-loved resort of Nerja with its famous caves, plus the stunning Alpujarra mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the spectacular moorish mountain town of Mojácar, and the Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural park with its breath-taking scenery and walks; plus quirky Oasys MiniHollywood, the setting for some of Sergio Leone’s best known spaghetti westerns because of its amazing scenery in the Desert of Tabernas. A simple but high quality and welcoming new site, in a quiet and relaxing location, and with some great places to visit on days out if you are so inclined.
