In a great location and will appeal to many winter sun campers looking for a relaxing stay on Portugal’s much loved Algarve coast.
The owners' father was a keen and committed motorcaravanner of many years standing and created the kind of site he would like to stay on, with good quality facilities and much care taken over laying down the pitch bases and surfaces. The friendly site team is always there to help, and English is spoken in reception. Pitches are small, so the pitch fees comprise two adjacent pitches, with a total area of about 80m². This special arrangement for members also makes the standard long stay price excellent value for money.
In a great location, just half a mile from the Algarve’s main N125 trunk road and a golf course, Ria Formosa is also under a mile from the sea front, and a quarter of a mile from both the local bus stop and a train station serving the main Algarve coast railway. Cabanas de Tavira’s sea front is in two parts – first the pleasant promenade, with bars and restaurants, next to the lagoon formed by the barrier island; then the beach on the barrier island itself, reached by boat (for a small charge) across the lagoon.
Meanwhile, just near the train station you can join the narrow lanes and cycle ways that take you via the local salt pans, with all their bird life, to Tavira itself. This ancient town is well worth a visit, especially the old castle and church that sit on a hill overlooking the Gilão river that flows through the town. Just a little further along the coast is the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a popular attraction for visitors to the region, as are many of the Algarve’s lovely beaches.

This site is one of the finest I have stayed in on the Algarve. Pitches are tight but you are allocated double pitches if you need them. Always plenty of staff on duty and always friendly and helpful. Grounds staff work incredibly hard to ensure the site always looks it's best. The only criticism I would make is that it's disappointing that a site of this calibre does not have toilet paper supplied in the toilet cubicles or soap for hand washing in the toilet blocks. I felt uneasy to touch the door handles etc knowing that everyone leaving the blocks had not washed their hands and worried about the health issue that this poses. This is not the usual standard expected from a CC&C approved and inspected site. On other club recommended sites these things are standard.

Campsite now run by the son of the original owner. Free wifi of good quality. Extra water and dump points added, also extra washing up facilities added, Easy to get to bus stop and train station for access all over Portugal. Excellent supermarket. 10 mins walk to the nearest other supermarket in Conceicao. 10-15 mins walk to other restaurants either in Cabanas (on the sea front) or Conceicao. Doctors and dentists close by. Tavira is nearest town with shopping centre. Not traditional tourist area.e above. Have stayed here for the last 3 winters in 9m Motorhome. Very friendly staff, can't do enough for you. Trees have now grown, so there is some shade but you don't need that it the winter anyway so they have been pruned back for winter camping.

we walked from the site to a lovely riverside esplanade, looking out to the dunes, the other side of river. We walked to end of raised walkway onto a wild beach. It was lovely. Little bistro type cafes all along the esplanade. This little town felt more Portuguese than the large resort of Albufera.
It was lovely and sunny when we were there.
