Overview

A welcoming, third generation family site, with over 50 years standing and with excellent facilities, that describes itself as "the countryside near the sea".

Ma Prairie has long been a favourite among members, and in recent times has only enhanced its reputation, with the additions of the waterslide, fitness room, pool bar and stylish new reception. Here you get all the benefits of the space, peace and calm of a country campsite, the local services of the village just nearby, the rural attractions of local vineyards, markets and producers, plus the resorts of the French Mediterranean a few minutes down the road. The site is central for beach holidays and for discovering both the French and Spanish aspects of spectacular Catalonia. Subject to demand, coach excursions are run weekly to Andorra, Barcelona and local places of interest, and throughout the season wine tasting and talks on wine-making are organised on site from the family vineyard. The medieval Cathar castles, cave paintings and prehistoric remains are highlights of this captivating region, as is a visit to the beautiful seaside artists' colony of Collioure – a paradise for lovers of art in all its forms.

Owned and run by the Gil family, English spoken. Sister site to Le Haras (MED01).

This review is for Ma Prairie

First camped here in 2001 having crossed the Pyrenees in search of the sun, we walked into the campsite not seeing the "Full" sign but they managed to find us a space we were so grateful with everywhere around full also, we have been back 6+ times and have always had hot hot weather, the site is friendly all nationalities everyone's chilled out always felt safe, nice atmosphere, family's, couples. We would get up early into the mountains so much to see, castles, gorges, ville France well worth a visit you can catch a train into the mountains, go in the grottos or around the market/castles, last time we went we climbed upto the castle on the mountain side it goes up steep steps along a tunnel, afternoon onto the beach very hot by then, back for a shower and then down to the bar for the evening/food and listen to the band ( played police tracks mostly brilliant) while getting drunk slowly. Ask for a map at reception for places of interest marked out really useful, visit colliure coastal town a must, beware when taking train trips into the mountains they take most of the day, one train ride changed from electric to diesel and then finally to steam value for money just kept going. They is also a lidos at bottom of the road very useful for food and bottled water or centre commercial 5 minutes by car. Time your holiday to include Bastille day you can watch fireworks on the beach at canet en roussillon or drink wine with the locals at ( castle nou ) a must visit
