A lovely tranquil site run to the highest standards

One of the prettiest sites we know - centrally located within easy reach of many favoured Alpine destinations. Beautiful countryside setting in the foothills of the Alps, with views as far as Mont Blanc on a clear day. The nearby lakes, the Chartreuse (renowned as one of the finest walking areas of France) and the Vercors Regional Parks are big draws and so too is the friendly care and attention from Martine, Gilles and their team. Gilles' cooking in the site restaurant is locally popular and yet the prices are extremely competitive.

Immaculately-kept modern facilities, set in grounds rich with colourful flowers and shrubs

Owned and run by Martine and Gilles Vallon, English spoken.

Pros: Massive pitch, large hedges. Spotless toilets, great showers.

This review is for Le Coin Tranquille

Pros: Massive pitch, large hedges. Spotless toilets, great showers. Beautiful walks, countryside, waterfalls, lakes. Nature: on pitch! Cons: Not quiet as typical sites, not following rules & quiet after 10:30pm (some nights 1am). Noisy leaving restaurant & driving away slamming car doors. No gates/open car park. Pitch: amazing size. Some pitches had trees for shade & pitches smaller with less space and more overlooked. Toilet block & showers Unisex & spotless. Frequently children in block unsupervised so toilet seats & floor wet. One day children flying toy helicopter! Strange potent smell of vinegar around 10pm every night? Pool chemicals? Cycling, hikes, from flat to extremely difficult (red/black) & exciting scrabbles up scree & wires & chains used to climb. Restaurant: Lovely duck 17 Euros, though for price better if salad was bigger & sauce included (2 Euros extra). Green salad - small amount of green leaves with dressing. Chips big & chunky slightly overcooked. SENSITIVE TO NOISE:NOT TRANQUILLE Hum of refridgeration unit at shop early & late. Recycling glass at midnight. Rubbish Lorry 5.30am. Car driving round 3am. Shop delivery 7am clanking & slamming doors. This is NOT what I would call 'Coin Tranquille'. Swimming pool supposed to close 9pm often still open 10pm noisy groups of people shouting, bombing. Every Wed evening: Campsite meal & entertainment until midnight. Extremely loud live music. Campers/locals took 45 minutes leaving (laughter, shouting, slamming car doors until 1am). Thursday evening foam bouncy castle/loud music until 8pm. Turned down but continued until 9pm. Saturday: group at restaurant all day/evening. Left 11.30pm noisy goodbyes, car doors slamming. Afternoon/early evening 5.30pm loud children's music/singing on microphone. Other evenings: Childrens pool disco (8-10.15pm) & Night Horror Walk (screaming children) 9-11.45.

We originally booked to stay here with our camper van, but had to change to our tent last minute, which was not a problem for them. On arrival, we knew we had found a gem of a place, and fell in love with the quiet surroundings. All facilities were superb - toilet and shower blocks were spotlessly clean and had less abled showers and toilet facilities were readily available. Baby baths were integrated into a counter top for ease, and had a shower head attachment too. Sinks were all private with lockable doors. Washing up sinks were all indoors, with laundry sinks in the same room. A washing machine and tumble drier were available with tokens purchased at reception. The restaurant was a very friendly place, with lots of choice on the menu and the deserts were to die for! Pizza were amazing and could be ordered as a take away. Ice creams were lovely too, and had a wide choice of flavours. Fresh French bread and pastries could be ordered in the shop for the next morning. The shop itself had some essentials, and cold drinks by the bottle, butter, cheese and cold meats. The kids club looked like it was well run, with lots of activities. ( water polo and a night pool party/disco was held while we were there, and our kids had an amazing time joining in on them.) The pool was totally enclosed with tidy fencing, and a locked gate for adults or older children to open. It was heated too, and was underwater lit at night ( pool closed at 9 pm - although they were not strict on the timing ) Fixed umbrellas gave you some shelter from the sun, and the ample amount of sun loungers and chairs gave everyone some where to relax. On the whole, it really is a fantastic place to stay, and we are already planning to revisit next year ( with our camper van ! ) In the town of Les Abrets, around five minutes drive, is a large Carrefour supermarket that was perfect for provisions.
