Peaceful, rural, relaxed, adults-only hideaway, set in the Quercy Triangle dark skies area
Popular with returning customers from all over Europe, this British-owned adults-only site makes for a peaceful, rural retreat, in an ancient and beautiful region steeped in rich and colourful history. Motorcaravanners may like to use the site's hire car (subject to availability) to discover the local legends, imposing châteaux and picturesque medieval towns and villages, with lovely Rocamadour, Sarlat, Saint Cirq Lapopie and Cahors, plus the astounding chasm of the Gouffre de Padirac all close by.
Popular with walkers, artists and photographers, Château de Lacomté also delights nature lovers with the 30-acre estate host to swallowtail butterflies, three species of woodpecker, and in May and June many rare orchids. There are also frequent sightings of birds of prey, plus the occasional visit by hare or deer.
The region is famous for its gastronomy and full bodied wines, and you can take in the peaceful vista across the surrounding countryside while enjoying Sheila's cooking on the terrace, or indeed while taking a swim in the pool.
Be sure not to miss the view above your head – the site lies within the Quercy Dark Skies Triangle, one of the least light-polluted parts of France, making for an intense spectacle at any time, but especially during the annual Perseid meteor shower in mid-August.
