Where was your first camping trip?
I remember my first time… I was eight years old and I pitched up with my friends and family at York Cycling Rally.
My family were – and still are - all keen cyclists so in true Thomas Hiram-Holding spirit, we loved taking our tent along with us on our summer escapades.
Never mind getting drenched when the tent occasionally leaked or the itchy midge bites we suffered after playing for too long in the long grass; the positives of camping really outweighed the negatives.
Every day my brother and I went cycling with friends, enjoyed exploring in the great outdoors and spent quality time with our family – camping really is the perfect tonic to the pressures of everyday life!
So, it comes as no surprise that in a recent survey, conducted by The Spring Caravan & Camping Show, more than half the people interviewed (59%) thought that children should spend more time outside with 81% stating that an understanding of nature and the countryside was ‘important’ or ‘very important’ to their upbringing.
And from personal experience, there’s no better way to enjoy the great outdoors than to go camping!
We have lots of children-friendly Club Sites and Camping in the Forest Sites dotted around the country with plenty of outdoor activities for adults and children alike to enjoy!
One of my firm favourites is our Drayton Manor Club Site - not only is it a lovely site but with a theme park and zoo, just next door, it's a great site for children!
And not forgetting our Camping in the Forest Sites where you can explore the woodland with the help of our Forest Rangers. My pick of the bunch is Hollands Wood in the New Forest -
There's plenty to do when staying on one of our all of our Sites - in fact, we've put together a list to help those budding first time family campers! Check it out: http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/ukcampsites/camping-with-grandchildren/top-10-things-to-do-with-kids-on-site/
The Club also offers some great discounted family deals making camping an inexpensive family holiday option - so there's no excuse not to pitch up!
For some camping inspiration, take a look at the Club’s website (www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk) or the Camping in the Forest website (www.campingintheforest.co.uk) for more information!
Happy camping everyone!
