Touring a high road

One of the great things about camping holidays is summed up in one word. Touring. The ability to have a base, or bases, and then go exploring in your vehicle.
But I'm going to add another, related, word. Driving. Or motoring. Either way on a recent camping trip to north-east France I reminded myself of that feeling of enjoying a great road from behind the wheel.

National Camping and Caravanning Week takes centre stage

It’s Whitsun Week and that means three things to me. It’s half term for the schools and so it’s a great time to go away for a break. It’s National Camping and Caravanning Week (NCCW) and so the best way to go away is with a tent, caravan or motorhome. And my birthday always falls within the week itself – and that has traditionally meant being away from home because I too get away with the family.

A night to remember with the stars (and clouds)

For many people part of the appeal of camping is that big ‘reveal’ moment. First thing in the morning you unzip the front of the tent or open the caravan or motorhome door, to see what vista lies before you. I’m no different. It can be all the more enjoyable when you pitch up in the dark the night before and then see what view greets you the next morning.

Camping with Kids book shares passion for great outdoors

One of my passions in life is encouraging people to enjoy the great outdoors. To get them into the countryside where they can enjoy all the benefits it brings, both physically and mentally.
For me, the best way to do that is twofold. Firstly, camping in all its forms brings you closer to nature and is the ideal way to enjoy outdoor pastimes and sports. And secondly, start them young. Get children into camping and the countryside at a tender age and that way they will hopefully carry our great...
