The Site is in an outstandingly beautiful area. - K and M Butt
The town of Bakewell is just over five miles
from Site. It is accessible by bus. There is a
thriving market held on Monday, or visit the
Old House Museum. An arts festival is held
in August.
An old railway track between Bakewell and Buxton is now the Monsal Trail for cyclists and walkers.
There are several Nature Reserves to explore in the area.
Haddon Hall is an unspoilt, fortified medieval and Tudor manor house with terraced rose gardens.
Buxton is known for its spa water and
annual festival.
Toys of Yesteryear is a museum and toyshop that holds vintage toy demonstrations regularly.
The Heights of Abraham includes a cable
car above the Derwent Valley and guided
tours around the famous Show Caverns.
Crich Tramway Village is home to the
National Tramway Museum.
Youlgreave is the nearest village to Site. A mile away, it has a Post Office, two butchers and three pubs.
The limited facilities at this Site – there is no toilet or shower block – mean that it is
one of the most peaceful Sites in the Club’s
network, even in the school holidays.
Did You Know
Bakewell and Youlgreave both have Well Dressing events in early summer. Well Dressing is the art of decorating wells and springs with pictures created from local flowers
Worth Noting
This site has no toilet or shower facilities, therefore own sanitation essential. The access road is narrow and care is needed. Most pitches are sloping and chocks will be required. The Site has poor TV reception.
Eat Local
The George Hotel specialises in local game. White Peak Farm Butchery sells locally sourced beef, pork, lamb, chicken, game and venison. Bakewell, Buxton, Castleton, Matlock and Whaley Bridge all have Farmers’ Markets.
